Courtney Plans to Sell Kurt's Stuff

Thirteen years after Kurt Cobain's death, Courtney Love is making a commitment to move on, by selling her late husband's belongings.

"I'm going to have a Christie's auction," she tells Spinner. "[My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter [14-year-old Frances Bean] doesn't need to inherit a giant Hefty bag full of flannel f***ing shirts ... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit' -- that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f***ing sell."

Love says her friends are supportive of the idea. "Everyone's been positive and behind me on it," she says. "We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity."

On Love's upcoming confessional album, 'Nobody's Daughter,' she opens the Pandora's box that is her past relationships, which include rockers Trent Reznor and Billy Corgan, and actor Edward Norton. While some in the media have speculated that the entire album was inspired by a recent unnamed paramour, Love says that's not the case. "There are two songs that are specifically about this guy; the rest of them have bits of Kurt, bits of Edward, bits of lots of people in them."

'Sunset Marquis' -- a song that rises from an acoustic intro into a pop/rocker with a Zeppelin-esque tinge, then culminates in vintage Love emotion as she screams, "You're the dance of my despair" -- is based on multiple experiences at the hotel of the same name, including some with Cobain. "Me and Kurt stayed at the Sunset Marquis a lot," she says.

Love says Cobain's impact on her is still considerable. "I still wear his pajamas to bed," she says. "How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?"

this is probably some of the most sought after rock merchandise from the 90's. As a huge Nirvana fan I would rather let Frances make the decision when she is of age. I wish I had the money for some of it though.

Hi,

I have been listening to Nirvana for a while now, and I would like to know what you are selling. I need permission from my folks though. If you are selling his Jag-Stang, I would like to buy it. ;)

(P.S. Gosh, seems like only yesterday when Frances was a little kid. Now look at her!)

Thanks.

Good for you! How long does the public expect you to mourn for him. Your daughter will remember who he was through his fans. I am a Fan and always will be but what he did was a copout. He denied his daughter a father and denied you a husband through his selfish act. Take that money and put into a trust fund for frances. She will do the right thing with it when she is of age.

i cant belive her, she killed him, she murdered kurt, now she is selling his stuff?! thats ridiculous..i wonder what frances has to say about this, its bullshit..courtneys just in it to get more money, she said it herself, when i actually see her writing a check to a charity, and it not bouncing, then ill believe that story..fucking ignorance...LONG LIVE KURT COBAIN r.i.p.

I think it is great that she can get rid of his stuff and is moving on. I do feel that her daughter should be able to go through the stuff with her mom and choose what she wants first and then she can sell the rest. I know how important it is to know your dad after he's died.My ownfather died when I was 10. I wish them all the best.

I would just like to say I admire Courtney for taking this step losing a loved one especially your spouse.Everyone has to let go in their own way and at their own pace.May God continue to bless her and her daughter with strength and courage and wisdom!

In Christ,

Jane Wood

i completely agree with you sarah.
on the tonight show, courtney said that frances is a hardcore republican, which makes me laugh because she obviously realizes her mom is nuts and wants to lean the other way.
who is the parent in this family?

I don't know you, but I can see you are a good soul and so was (or is) your husband. His pain was too strong to endure. Forgive him. Forget what people say, don't waste your time of your life while you are here, and live it as fully and peacefully as you can, day after day. Your daughter will be your strenght, and soon you might be ready for a new love. In the meantime, Kurt will be watching you and waiting to be riunited with you and Frances Bean.
Keep singing girl!!! You are OK. Lilly.

I do not really think anyone who didn't know you and Kurt have the right to give their opinions on what you should do with his belongings...I am just going to comment that I love Nirvana, can't afford to buy anything from you but I'm sure alot of people will. I am an artist and my favorite piece is a picture I drew of Kurt.

Did he kill himself because his wife drove him insane?Just wandering how his life was so bad that he had to commit sucide when he was rich, had a wife, and daughter.Family and money what more can you ask for gezz.

She already sold the music rights for $50 million. Yeah you're right Courtney, about $50 million considerable. Now she wants more. Thanks for turning him on to heroin and being a facilitator for him. Courtney saw her opportunity and took it. Curt's things belong to Frances. If Courtney does not want them around, put them in storage for Frances. She wants to sell Curt's things because they remind her of what she did. The pajama thing is a bid for sympathy. Rock music died when Curt died. Just look at what's left. It ain't pretty

Courtney, I'm a huge fan but will probably never be able to afford anything Kurt touched at auction. Any chance for a freebie? (can't hurt to ask).

and if he had an incurable disease, in constant agony, people wouldn't say what they say. but it was all in his head, and he was rich and famous. so how dare he kill himself? the pain is no less real, though invisible. the wounds no less grievous.

waking up every day, looking in the mirror. the only reason some people are alive is out of habit, not a real desire to live.

when you stare into the abyss, and it stares back - it's a f****n reflection.

anyway, have a nice day! ^_^
